Class Notes: Gender and Sexuality in Critical Animal Studies This course will explore sites where the politics of gender, race, and power meet up with stories people tell about relationships between humans and other animals. From Princess Mononoke to feminist theory to social media discourse, the way we talk and think about animals impacts our sense of what kinds of politics are possible in the world. Students will have an opportunity to create their own animal narratives and theories in addition to exploring those of others. This is a mixed undergraduate/graduate student class. It is a seminar dependent on reading and in-class discussion. It includes some writing assignments. During Spring 2026, WGS 391 fulfills the 'WGS Additional Requirement' for the WGSS Minor or a WGSS Minor elective. It is recommended that students have already taken WGS 120.
Textbooks have not been finalized for section.
