Class Notes: THE 176A01- Theatre and Society: Introduction to Queer Theatre and Representation This course introduces students to the history and criticism of queer theatre and representation from the Greeks to the present. Topics include Sappho of Lesbos, molly houses, Oscar Wilde, Mae West, the queer Off-Off-Broadway Explosion during the 1960s, Andy Warhol and The Factory, AIDS plays, and contemporary musicals. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the history and criticism of queer theatre and representation.

Class Notes: Theatre and Society: Female Playwrights. In this course students will read several plays by prevalent female playwrights of the 20th and 21st Century in American Theatre. Their plays contain complex roles for women and address women’s issues, which will be the starting point for our class discussions. We will then explore how their plays are still relevant today.
