Description: This class explores the roots and routes of Black American music. It examines events that shaped spirituals, blues, jazz, rhythm and blues, hip hop, call & response, interlocking polyphonies, and improvisation, and how the music fosters repair, affirmation, and futurities for a people whose past has been deliberately rubbed out.
