Class Notes: Audio Synthesis Techniques Hands-on approach to designing sounds and creating music with analog and digital synthesizers, with an emphasis on modular instruments. Students will learn about the rich history of synthesis and electronic music, including listening to examples and rebuilding classic sounds - if you've ever wanted to make R2-D2's sounds on an original ARP 2600 instrument, this is the course for you! Our primary tool will be the virtual modular environment VCV Rack, with excursions into hardware instruments from the past and present. Self-directed projects may include live performance, programming software synthesizers, multi-channel sound installations, DIY electronics, and more.
